Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Act

Topic:

Health Care Provider Protection Act

Description:
Urge Congress: Fund Lorna Breen Act Programs Now!

The Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Act is a first-of-its-kind law to protect and strengthen health workers’ mental health and wellbeing. The law and its funding have already transformed and saved lives–improving the systems in which health workers are educated, trained, and practice through:

* Two grant programs that supported 250,000+ health workers across 44 evidence-informed initiatives at hospitals, health systems, health professions schools, and community organizations to improve health workers’ mental health, reducing burnout, anxiety, and depression.

* A national training and education program that provided innovative training materials for 35,000+ healthcare leaders to address the specific operational factors and burdens driving their workforce’s burnout.

However, more work remains to be done. According to the CDC, health workers’ mental health is worse than any other segment of the U.S. workforce. Tragically, as many as 400 doctors die by suicide each year, and female nurses are more likely to die by suicide than women in other occupations.

Congress must act now to continue to fund the life-saving, systems-changing work enabled by the Lorna Breen Act.

Join us in urging Congress to provide $45M for Lorna Breen Act programs in fiscal year 2026. Share your story with your members of Congress–let them know why this matters so much to you, and why they must continue to fund these critical programs.
